Beginning in 2021, "Another World: The Transcendental Painting group 1938-1945", will begin its journey to five of America’s best museums. Addison Rowe Gallery has promoted and exhibited these artists for over a decade and helped make this museum exhibition a reality. One major pitfall in the exhibition of these artists is thinking they only painted, or painted their most, transcendental art between the years of 1938 and 1945. This could not be further from the truth, and many of these artists made their most transcendent work before and after those dates. Our exhibition includes works by Emil Bisttram, Florence Miller Pierce, and Raymond Jonson, among other artists who also achieve this transcendental goal - to carry painting beyond the appearance of the physical world, through new concepts of space, color, and design - to make work that does not concern itself with political, economic, or other social problems - work that is imaginative, spiritual, and powerful.
