Kurtz is known for his artist books and miniature paintings on expired credit cards. Selective detritus from our collective past is often layered throughout his work. Since the 1980s, the artist has combined his painted boxers, superheroes, seductive women and other powerful beings with poetic text.

Kurtz's language paired with his repetitive, obsessive mark-making becomes a form of meditative expression for the artist and viewer. His work is linked to the oral tradition of personal storytelling. He invites the viewer in, to have an intimate, sensual and emotional experience to the painted form.
