The Academy is the nation’s leading program in... more >> The New York Academy of Art is pleased to announce its annual MFA Thesis Exhibition, showcasing work from the 44 members of the graduating class of 2018. The show features drawing, painting and sculpture created in the Academy’s tradition of highly skilled, conceptually aware figurative and representational art. The exhibition opens May 17 at the Academy and is on view until May 26, 2018.
The Academy is the nation’s leading program in figurative art; Academy students are intensively trained in a rigorous twoyear graduate program by a dynamic faculty including senior critics Steven Assael, Will Cotton, Vincent Desiderio, Eric Fischl, Judy Fox, Kurt Kauper and Jenny Saville. The class includes artists from 14 nations, including Iran, New Zealand, France, Azerbaijan, Iceland, China, the Dominican Republic, Turkey, Australia and the UK. Artists in the class have participated in group and solo exhibitions in New York, Sydney, Rejkavik, Toronto, London, Edinburgh, Munich and Paris; received artist residencies at Sculpture Space, CalArts and the MacDowell Colony; and had artwork featured in The New York Times, New York Magazine, NPR, VICE, The Guardian, Artnet, ARTSY and ARTNews. New York Academy of Art Founded in 1982 by artists, scholars and patrons of the arts, including Andy Warhol, the New York Academy of Art believes that comprehensively trained artists are best able to realize their artistic vision. Academy students are taught traditional methods and techniques and encouraged to use these skills to make vital contemporary art. Through a lively speaker series, major exhibitions and an ambitious educational program, the Academy serves as a creative and intellectual center for all artists dedicated to figurative and representational art.
