To make up for the postponement Art Rotterdam art fair from 1st to 4th July 2021, Double V Gallery is pleased to present Maximilien Pellet's first 3D solo exhibition, curated by Thomas Havet.
After experimenting with a technique halfway between wall painting and painting in buildings, Maximilien Pellet broadens his research since 2018 to explore the possibilities of two-dimensional ceramics.
This medium favors the repetition of fundamental motifs such as the man or the elementary geometric figures, which he declines by taking inspiration from the main artistic currents of the beginning of the 20th century - cubism, Dada, abstractions, etc. - to create a new form of painting.
Pellet draws in fresh clay before glazing. The drawing stage is quick and artisanal, that of the more industrial color, although the artist makes his own shades.
About his three new large format productions, the artist explains :
"Each portrait painted in clay hides other anthropomorphic silhouettes. The images are superimposed, the lines merge, and the light brings out avatars or simple costumes. The three figures parade on the wall in a sort of parade. A humanoid reptile and a devil from the Middle Ages seem to be escorting another evil figure: the witch. This carnival tells us the supernatural story of evil that crosses the centuries, myths and beliefs to announce the end of the world".
The enamel flashes with an electric brilliance. The repertoire is based on hieroglyphics. And Maximilien Pellet's passion for the decorative arts ostensibly embraces the joys of the mural, and everything that clings to it.

Pour palier au report du salon Art Rotterdam du 1er au 4 juillet 2021, Double V Gallery est heureuse de présenter le premier solo show en 3D de Maximilien Pellet. Sur un commissariat de Thomas Havet.
Après avoir expérimenté une technique à mi-chemin entre peinture pariétale et peinture en bâtiment, Maximilien Pellet élargit ses recherches depuis 2018 pour explorer les possibilités de la céramique en deux dimensions.
Ce médium favorise la répétition de motifs fondamentaux comme le bonhomme où les figures géométriques élémentaires, qu’il décline en s’inspirant des principaux courants artistiques du début du xxe siècle – cubisme, Dada, abstractions, etc.
Pellet dessine dans l’argile fraîche avant d’émailler. L’étape du dessin est rapide et artisanale, celle de la couleur plus industrielle, bien que l’artiste réalise lui-même ses teintes.
A propos de ses trois nouvelles productions en grand formats, l’artiste explique :
"Chaque portrait peint dans la terre dissimulent d'autres silhouettes anthropomorphes. Les images se superposent, les lignes se confondent, et la lumière fait surgir des avatars ou de simples costumes. Les trois personnages défilent sur le mur dans une sorte de parade. Un reptile humanoïde et un diable du Moyen Age semblent escorter une autre figure maléfique : celle de la sorcière. Ce carnaval nous racontent l'histoire surnaturelle du mal qui traverse les siècles, les mythes et les croyances pour annoncer la fin du monde."
L'émail flash d'une brillance électrique. Le répertoire relève du hiéroglyphe. Et la passion de Maximilien Pellet pour les arts décoratifs embrasse ostensiblement les joies du mural, et tout ce qui s'y accroche.
