"Home: Beyond Walls and Monsters" is an evocative exploration of the multifaceted concept of home through the works of three young artists from Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia in Finland. This exhibition delves into the emotional and psychological dimensions of what it means to feel at home, presenting a dialogue between solitude, decay, and raw expression.

Through his series "The Empties," Dennis Renlund (b. 1999, Terjärv, Finland) captures the haunting beauty of abandoned objects and spaces. Studying photography at Novia University of Applied Sciences, he uses his lens to explore deep emotional currents and personal experiences. His photographs express feelings of loneliness, isolation, and anxiety, revealing a poignant sympathy for forgotten subjects. These images serve as metaphors for the internal struggles many face, offering a reflective space to contemplate the emptiness and silence that can pervade our lives.

In contrast, Johan Öst, a multimedia artist, brings a raw, dynamic energy to the exhibition. His digital drawings are intricate depictions of monstrous and ambiguous forms that evoke a sense of the uncanny. Through his art, Öst explores themes of rage, shame, and frustration, presenting a visceral response to the complexities of human emotion. His works are characterized by explosions of painterly colors and twisting, animalistic shapes that straddle the line between the conscious and unconscious, capturing both the hopelessness and empowerment that reside within us.

Adding another dimension to this exploration, Leo Savolainen (b. 2001, Vaasa, Finland) captures the beauty in decay through his photography. Based in Helsinki, he focuses on old rusted artifacts, crumbling buildings, and other remnants of the past. His work evokes a sense of nostalgia and reverence for the forgotten, with subjects that symbolize both loss and possibility. Through his lens, the impermanence of life is highlighted alongside the enduring power of transformation.

Together, these artists create a powerful narrative that transforms the idea of home into an emotional and psychological journey. "Home: Beyond Walls and Monsters" invites viewers to explore the depths of personal experience and the complex emotions that define our sense of belonging. Through the lens of solitude, the haunting beauty of decay, and the raw expressions of inner turmoil, this exhibition reveals the deep connections between place, feeling, and identity. It encourages reflection on how the remnants of the past, the monstrous and the forgotten, shape our understanding of home and self.
