Daniel Subkoff has been making painting unusually real for at least a decade, cutting, tearing and folding stretched canvases to form objects that reach out into space. But he has exhibited his work in New York fewer than 10 times, always in group shows. He may well be a precursor to much of the physically eccentric, deconstructive painting going on right now, but it is hard to know if he has been an actual influence.
