It champions the work of established artists whose work deserves greater recognition, many of whom emerged during the 1960s and 1970s. By re-presenting and recontextualizing their work, the gallery questions the prevailing narrative of contemporary art history and encourages its revision.
\n\nCurrently, Garth Greenan Gallery represents 17 artists of different generations. The gallery handles works in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking. Each year, the gallery presents seven exhibitions, many of which are accompanied by publications. All gallery publications are available through D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers Inc., making them accessible to as wide an audience as possible.\n\nIn June 2016, the gallery announced its expansion and relocation to the ground floor of 545 West 20th Street—a 5,000 square foot space with 13-foot-high ceilings. The gallery inaugurated its new location in September with a site-specific installation of works by Roy McMakin. Since then, the gallery has continued to mount increasingly ambitious exhibitions and projects. Attendance has nearly quadrupled and it is attracting a more diverse audience than ever before. In addition, the new space has made it possible to host ancillary events such as artist conversations, lectures, and poetry readings. Certainly, increased visibility has had a tremendous impact on the development of the gallery's brand and, of course, the furtherance of its mission
