Rao FU has lived for decades in both China and Germany. The mixed background has allowed his paintings to transcend cultural barriers and reach the core of human existence. In the past year and a half, the ongoing pandemic has brought much anxiety, panic, and alienation worldwide and has informed FU’s creative process. In the series “Inevitable”, the artist portrays an armed conflict fueled by technological arms race. In “Everything Has Its Vanquisher” and “Late Autumn”, FU explores the inner fear and unease that permeates the public in the present day. In latest painting, FU also presents a wide range of human conditions, such as life, death, love, and the whimsical gathering and dispersing of crowds – themes that strikes a chord with us all in this particular time. In “Zoom Meeting”, FU portrays a scene where people maintain communication via video conference, a raising phenomenon due to the ongoing restrictions.
