Imagining Peace message: First we let go of our faith and belief, then the dream of peace comes true.

Lan ChungHsuan’s digital photo series, There is no You and Me in our Hand-to-Hand Combat, presents a series of thermal images of hand-to-hand combats. Based on the appearances of the uniforms and the weapons, the figures in the images reveal their identities as World War II soldiers. The cruelty of past wars is still evident in modern wars. Ironically, we condemn history while conducting the same simultaneously. Our reasons might be different, but in modern wars, soldiers are still obeying the orders to kill in the same way. These hand-to-hand combats indicate the smallest unit of the great political game. There is no you and me in wars, partakers are merely another two dying soldiers killing each other for no personal reasons. This set of images captures our body temperature before the life of one of us starts to fade, which is a symbol of the message of how historical wars should have become a warning to us, and yet it never works.
