Sung Hee Cho is a South Korean artist currently living in Seoul. Her work is inspired by nature, snowflakes, gardens, water, flower petals, ground clover, and hydrangea. Sung Hee uses an ancient technique, Hanji paper made from rice or the inner bark of the mulberry tree.
The petals, once formed, are painstakingly attached individually to stems (also made from rolled and hardened Hanji paper). The stems are attached to the Hanji paper-covered surface of the canvas. Sung Hee paints each petal with oil paint thinned with turpentine, creating her beautiful works as each petal is placed and painted with colors.
She has had a recent solo exhibition EFFLORESCENCE (2019) at Fondazione Mudima in Milan, Italy.
