I’m currently studying Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology; however, I was born and raised in Long Island, NY. When I was a junior in high school, I began to merge my artwork with my consciousness. I started making artwork about social commentary and centered my art around the black experience. I've always been in tune with our history and how we navigate through our pain. We dig deep into our past, with resilience as the foundation for our future and my art reflects that. In my junior year of high school, I won the Congressional Art Contest for my congressional district and had my piece in the US Senate Tunnel. I created a modern version of Norman Rockwell’s “Freedom of Religion” to highlight the diverse culture in America and the diverse forms of worship. In my senior year of high school, I won the award of Social Commentary in the Heckscher Museum’s Long Island's Best competition for my piece titled “American Stalker” which touches on how young black men are often viewed as society’s predators though they are often society’s prey. My passion for spoken word poetry aided the process of conceptualizing our issues. There's a strong parallel between using metaphors in poetry and symbolism in art. I specialize in chalk pastel portraiture and find deep importance in bringing the spirits of my subjects to life. I feel it is necessary to bring attention to issues in our society through metaphoric creativity. I’ve worked with Saint-Cyr Art Studio as well as Authentic Heartwork as an assistant muralist from 2021 to 2022. For a while, I did a lot of commissions for families and couples which resulted in me selling a portrait to Spike Lee at 19. But I've since returned to my passion for creating work that impacts society rather than just the individual.
